You have been summoned to an alien planet by a distress signal. But you're not the only thing that has been summoned here - an insatiable sentient plant brought from another realm has devoured this once thriving city. If it succeeds at releasing its spores, it will infest the entire galaxy. You must defeat it before it is too late!

 STORY: SCIENTISTS LOGS

Log #1

A traveler this week. From another planet, bringing marvelous stories.

I am eager to hear more about his Stellaflora galactica - a self-sustaining flowering plant that yields a continually harvestable crop.

Could this be the panacea we have hoped for? An end to hunger in all the far reaches of our galaxy?

Log #2

Success beyond my wildest dreams!

I have summoned the Stellaflora galactica from her ancient realm. We opened the dimensional gateway with little difficulty.

She is beautiful… I shall name her Eden.

Log #3

I am possessed of the uncanny notion that Eden has a cunning intelligence.

As I worked today, I listened to  a beautiful sonata on the holophone. The changes were subtle, but I could swear she was listening too and swaying in time - dancing, perhaps?

Remarkable.

Log #4

Eden is very hungry today…

had I known just how much of our reserves this little sprout would eat, perhaps I would not have begun my experiments…

but I cannot hold this against her, when I dream of the hunger she will satiate for sentients across the galaxy!

Log #5

Eden has begun to sing. I can scarcely believe it - a singing plant!

The sound brings to mind a child blowing a reed of grass between two thumbs. Only much louder, and less pleasing to my ear I must admit.

She has not quite grasped pitch, as I would understand it, though she has a sense of rhythm I cannot fault.

Log #6

There has been an accident. My assistant is… no more.

I told him it was too soon for the first harvest.

Eden has grown stronger. She seems to have developed that rebellious spirit of adolescence.

I have faith she will come around. She still seems to love my sonatas.

Log #7

Eden no longer respects the bounds of the laboratory.

I have seen her tendrils in the foyer - how she learned to travel across the entire dome towards the door, when the sun shines in from every direction, I cannot fathom.

Most concerning, she has hidden these adventures from me…

Log #8

All my research for naught!

The Council has gotten wind of Eden and I have been compelled to terminate the project.

They don’t understand - we have birthed something new into this world.

Who are we to take that life away?  To silence her voice raised in song?

Log #9

This will be my last entry.

The Council has pulled me from the project entirely.

Eden is to be retired, and I have been dismissed from my commission.

I have done everything I could - but they will not let me see her.

I fear what she will do without my guidance… will she wonder where I have gone?
